Day 59

--Mom arrived today! I met her at the airport after class, and we made a little road trip to San Gimignano! The road trip was great with lovely scenery, but a little bumpy (Mom hasn’t driven a stick shift in 20-something years..)

San Gimignano is a little Tuscan town with a population of about 2,000 people. This medieval town has been around since the 10th century, and is surrounded by a tall, stone wall. One of the neatest parts about San G. is that they preserve the history of their buildings. As we learned on our tour, the stones of the buildings have been reused over centuries. You can see the history of each building be seeing where a terrace used to be, the remnants of a column that are now surrounded by a solid wall, and all the old window archways.

And just to be a little cheeseball: Belle’s opening song in Beauty and the Beast almost fits San G. perfectly. “little town, it’s a quiet village. Everyday like the one before. Little town full of little people waking up to saaay: Bonjour! Bonjour! Etc.

Now change the “bonjour’s” to “buongiorno’s”, and you’ve got yourself a deal!
(Okay, okay. That’s the end of my cheesey-ness for now, but I may catch that disease again later).
